Uddingston Triples

A bus load of Sighthill members travelled through to Uddingston for the annual triples competition. The weather held up despite the forecast of rain with only a couple of very light showers which lasted 10 minutes each.

The teams results were pretty sporadic throughout the event but in the end two Sighthill teams got through to the semi finals.
Stuart Syme, Sean Kelly and Adam Melrose got through narrowly before Gordon Macintosh, Andy Duff and Ewen Macintosh with equal points but a 5 shot advantage.
Robbie Hendry, Ross Hendry and Ryan Ironside got to the semis with a straight 5 game winning streak.

Adam and co won their semi final against Bothwell Bowling Club while Ryan and co won their semi against Uddingston Bowling Club setting up an all Sighthill BC final (naturally).

So, with the money in the bag for Sighthill it was only the bragging rights to play for. The final was a very well played match. All bowlers played well and it was a great game despite what the score line suggests.
In the end, Robbie Hendry, Ross Hendry and Ryan Ironside won the Uddingston Triples 7-0.

Congratulations to Robbie, Ross and Ryan and commiserations to Stuart, Sean and Adam.

Sighthill v Wellcroft 2024

Not going to lie, the weather was dreadful and not a soul (or sole) was dry.
The rain pretty much poured all day which limited us to start playing 12 ends which was quickly cut short to 6 ends only as the greens started to puddle rapidly.

As usual the games were played with great enthusiasm and great banter and I think it’s safe to say everybody had a good time although the games were cut short.

Sighthill won 41-26 with a difference of 15 to take to the return fixture in August.

Big thanks to the caterers for the food provided.

Of course a massive thank you to Stan Blyth and Bob Bryce for organising the day so well.

Pictured at the bottom is Sandy Watson and Scott Kirkland who were initial starters of this friendly.

Opening Day Is Coming!

Opening day on Saturday the 6th of April is only 2 weeks away and we’re all busy getting ready for the big day. Team Selections for the WEBA leagues and the EBA leagues are almost completed, the greens are looking superb and with a bit of luck the weather on the day will be fantastic.

The club committee has been working tirelessly to ensure that everything runs smoothly on opening day, every detail is being carefully considered.

Members are eager to hit the greens and show off their skills, there’s a buzz of excitement in the air as everyone looks forward to reconnecting with old friends and making new ones on the green.

With the anticipation building, the countdown to opening day is on. We can’t wait to kick off the season with a day full of friendly competition, camaraderie, and hopefully a few wins. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic start to what promises to be another great year of lawn bowling at our club.
