WEDNESDAY EBA RESULTS
First 16 were away to Northern BC and were hoping for a convincing win but it was not to be. It was still a win for the First 16 but it was only a 5-4 win. The total shots was 69-61. The win keeps the First 16 in 2nd place with two games to go.
Second 16 were at home to league leaders Corstorphine BC and the Second 16 put up a fine performance to win 5-4. The total shots was 72-65. The win moves the 2nd 16 to 5th place. With 2 games to go a few points are still required to avoid the potential drop but it’s in our own hands.
Well done to both teams on their wins.

WEDNESDAY EBA RESULTS
We had both 16’s in action last night and it turned out a victorious evening.
First 16 were away to Postal BC and returned home with an excellent 7-2 victory with the total shots 98-48. Win keeps them 2nd as they chase down the leaders with 4 games to go.
Second 16 continued their winning streak with a 5-4 victory over Tanfield BC with the total shots 79-49. The win keeps them mid table with 3 games to go.
Well done to both teams on their victories.

SBC A v SBC B friendly

Well the sun didn’t shine for the game tonight where we had both West Edinburgh teams playing a friendly.

Both teams win 2 rinks each but on aggregate it was a 2 shot win for Team A over Team B

Well done to everyone who took part and I’ll admit it was freezing for most of the game.

Important announcement

The ‘cost of living’ crisis is now starting to have an impact on the Club.

Our suppliers costs have risen, our 20% discount with Sky has finished so our monthly bill will increase by at least £250. Gas and Water are up and our electricity monthly bill has just risen from £1000 a month to £3000 a month.

As treasurer I have a duty and with these increases on our monthly expenditure I have decided, with Committee approval, that from Monday 15 August 2022 there will be a 20p increase on ALL alcohol drinks. The members specials will also have to stop. A further review of the prices will be carried out at the end of the bowling season. The increase still leaves the Club cheaper than the surrounding establishments.

It is to be expected that our footfall will fall once the bowling season finishes but our outgoing costs will remain the same or may increase further so I have to make sure that I am acting in the best interests of the Club.

Important: Club Reopening

This morning the Club has been cleaned using fogging/sanitising treatment. The work was carried out by Edinburgh Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning to ensure our premises are safe from the spread of Covid.

I would like to thank the Committee for taking this prompt action to ensure the safety of our members, staff and visitors.

This also means NO BOWLING either.

Further updates will be announced in due course.

Opening Day 2

Morning all

Opening day on Saturday went very well. There was a great turn out for the announcement of John House as President and Dougie McKay as Vice President.

The sun was out for a while and many took part in the bowling. Was great to see so many faces back at the Club.

As the evening progressed we dropped our guard a little regarding the current restrictions that are in place so can I remind everyone that even though the bar is open it is for OUTSIDE drinking only.

Please remember it is mandatory to wear your face mask whilst inside the Club unless medically exempt.

It is only two weeks until the 17th May and inside drinking can then take place so let’s not risk any sanctions or fines to the Club by sticking to the current rules in place.

Opening Day

The Club will still be open during this ‘lockdown’ period for any of our members who wish to continue bowling.

We thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you all back indoors when the bar reopens.

22:00 curfew

Morning all

Following the Government announcement regarding the 22:00 curfew we will be calling last orders at 21:00 with the bar closing at 21:15 on Friday and Saturday starting this Friday. This will give the bar staff time to finish their duties before Club is closed by 22:00.

Please note these are Government rules. We have to adhere to these new rules in order to remain open.

Here is a reminder of our current opening and closing with the new times for Friday and Saturday.

Monday to Thursday 13:00 to 20:00

Friday 12:00 to 22:00 with last orders 21:00 and bar closed at 21:15.

Saturday 11:00 to 22:00 with last orders 21:00 and bar closed at 21:15

Sunday 12:00 to 20:00

Mandatory masks in club

Morning all

As from today it is now mandatory to wear a mask whilst moving about the Club. This is the directive given by the Government.

When you arrive at the Club make sure you are wearing your mask. Enter the Club and sign in as normal.

You must keep your mask on while:

Going to and from the bar

Going to and from the toilet

Going for and returning from a smoke

Going to and from the changing room

When you are seated at a table with your drink you can remove your mask.

If you are bowling you do not have to wear your mask.

The bar staff will also be wearing their mask whilst serving etc.

In addition the ‘three household rule’ has been reduced to two households with a maximum of 6 people. Tables and chairs are set out accordingly and must not be moved under any circumstances.

Please remember these are new mandatory rules direct from the Government and not us as a Club.

In addition we also encourage all members to download the track and trace app. This is available from the protect Scotland website here https://www.protect.scot/

We thank you for your understanding and support during these trying times.

Pairs Competition

Next Saturday, 1st August, we are holding our pairs competition. To get an idea of the numbers there will be sheet on the noticeboard so if you want to take part then add your name to the sheet. The sheet will be put on noticeboard at 16:00 today.

On Saturday be at the Club for 10:30. The draw will take place on Saturday at 10:45 with play to start at 11:00.

Club Update

Club Update

Following the Committee meeting yesterday, I can confirm the following :

From tomorrow, you no longer need to book a rink. We now have all 6 rinks on A and B green so it’s a first come first served basis. The booking system was great to get us back bowling and has served us well.

When you arrive for a game you will take two mats and one jack. Once you have finished your game return the jack to the green box and place your mats on the floor next to the table within the greens doors.

You will enter and leave via the front door. Please make sure you sign in when you arrive at the Club. This is very important for our track and traceability. For any visitors please make sure you add the members name who they are with.

The members lounge is set up for social distancing and this will remain at 2 metres. The members lounge seats 30 so any overspill will have to sit in the function hall, where there are tables and chairs set out.

The bar is still being covered, mainly by the Committee, so there may be times, particularly midweek afternoons, that you find the bar temporarily closed. We will try our best to cover the opening hours which remain the same as last week. Willie and Connie will cover Friday and Saturday evenings but it is Committee covering all other times for now.

Opening hours are:
Monday to Thursday – 13:30 to 20:00
Friday 13:30 to 22:00
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00

We will be holding a one day confined pairs comp on Saturday 1st August. Please arrive by 10:30, add your name to the sheet and an open draw will take place for the pairs and the schedule of play. This competition is for members only.

For now the games room and upstairs will remain closed to all.

The Committee will regularly review and discuss any potential changes to the above so please have patience and understanding as we work together through these challenging times and we thank you all for your support.

We look forward to seeing many more of you returning to the Club but should anyone have any questions or concerns then please speak to a member of the Committee.

Bar Hours Update.

Morning all

It was great to see so many of you yesterday as the bar opened up for the first time since lockdown for outside drinking. Bowling was busy with plenty spectators. First day went very well and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves.

The Committee met last night to decide on the opening hours for this weekend. As mentioned yesterday the opening hours for Monday to Thursday are 13:30 to 20:00.

Friday will be 13:30 to 22:00.
Saturday will be 12:00 to 22:00
Sunday will be 12:00 to 18:00

These hours will be reviewed next Monday as we prepare for opening the Club on the 15th.

As you know we have the one way system in place for the toilets and the bar. Please remember to follow the signs. Keep your distance and remember to sign in when you arrive at the Club. There are also sanitisers stations positioned within the Club.

Be mindful of others, stay safe and enjoy.

Any questions or concerns then please speak to a Committee member.

Important Club Update

The Committee have met on three occasions this week to plan and work alongside the Scottish Government instructions regarding opening the Club as a beer garden.

We are delighted to announce that we will be opening the bar on Monday 6th July 2020 at 13:30 for outside drinking.

The bar will open at 13:30 Mon to Thurs and close at 20:00. The Fri – Sun hours will be announced this weekend.

For track and traceability EVERYONE MUST SIGN IN when they arrive at the Club so we require name and contact number. The sign in book will be stationed at the doors to the greens.

The Club is still officially closed but we have mapped out a one way system to allow access to the toilets and to the bar for ordering your drink to take outside.

Access to the Club will remain as is, where you walk round the building to the greens.

The doors to the greens will be the entry point for toilets with the exit out the fire door in the members lounge.

The doors to the greens will be the entry point to the bar in the members lounge with the exit out the fire door.

All empty glasses MUST be returned and placed on the table outside the doors to the greens where a member of the Committee will take care of the glasses.

There is a vast amount of signage within these areas to remind you all of social distancing and good hygiene so we ask all members to be remindful of these and to follow these measures. There are various sanitiser stations throughout the Club for you to use.

We have further plans ready for when the Club can open on the 15th July and for any reduction in the social distancing. These will be issued at the appropriate time.

This a new era for the Club with the restrictions in place but this is another step forward. Let’s all work together by using common sense and being mindful of others as we move through the next phase.

Should anyone have any questions or concerns then please contact a Committee member.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday for your pint. Stay safe everyone and enjoy.

Bowls Scotland Update

Afternoon all

Bowls Scotland have released updated guidelines after the First Minister’s statement on Thursday.

Read the guidance notes and the frequently asked questions and answers.

Basically there is very little change from phase 1

Toilets are still closed
Club is still closed
NO spectators
NO alcohol

You can now have three households on one rink instead of two households and those who were shielding can now return to play bowls.

We will continue with the booking system, the cleaning of the mats and jacks, maintaining good hygiene and social distancing.

Let’s hope it’s only for the short term as I see it’s been announced today that the COVID-19 level has dropped in the UK from level 4 to level 3 which is good news.

Any questions let me know

Rink Booking Update

Morning all,

We are making a change to the booking form, which will be effective for this Monday’s bookings.

This will be changing to five time slots with playing time of 1.5 hours.

The new times available will be 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00.

The current demand is not as high as we expected and we are hoping the change in time slots will encourage more members to play.

Changing to the new times will give more time options for all members who wish to play but say, for example, you are on a rink at 16:00 and would like to stay over the allocated 1.5 hours then you can stay longer if there are rinks available in the next session.

I hope this helps explain the changes we are making but should you have questions then please let me know.

Hope to see more of you on the greens in the near future as we have strict safety measures in place to keep all players as safe as possible.

Bowls Gets The Green Light

BOWLS GETS THE GREEN LIGHT

Following the First Minister’s announcement earlier this afternoon I can confirm that we are allowed to open the greens to resume playing bowls from Friday 29th May 2020.

Bowls is a fantastic sport which is also a good form of exercise and helps ease any mental health stresses. Knowing you can get back on the greens with your mates, having that banter and a chat gives us all something to look forward to.

As stated earlier the ‘booking a rink’ on the Clubs website will go ‘live’ tonight at 19:00. If you are not yet signed up then I urge you to do so. It’s great to see that we currently have 100 members signed up on the website.

Please remember you have to book a rink in order to play. DO NOT TURN UP AT THE CLUB WITHOUT A BOOKING as you will be refused entry. There are NO SPECTATORS OR VISITORS ALLOWED.

Also note that the CLUB IS NOT OPEN – we are only allowed to open the greens for bowling. Can’t stress this enough that we have to stick to the rules and guidelines that were issued by Bowls Scotland so let’s make sure we all do.

So finger on the trigger for 19:00 tonight and I’ll see the first players at 10:00 on Friday.

Bowls Scotland Update

Bowls Scotland Update

Bowls Scotland have issued updated guidelines at 12:00 today. There are two very important updates.

Over 70’s who are fit and healthy are allowed to bowl but it is ultimately their decision if they wish to. If an over 70 with underlying health issues, is isolating or shielding they have to remain indoors as per the current Government guidelines.

Aged 16 and under are not allowed to play unless they are with a parent/guardian, who is either part of the rink or has to stand at the side.

Should anyone have any questions relating to these changes then please let me know.

Please check previous updates regarding the rules and guidance that have to be adhered to if you fall under these two changes.

Government announcement

Afternoon all.

Scotland’s First Minister has announced today that as from the 28th May, bowls can resume.

We now await a statement from Bowls Scotland with the guidelines that Clubs have to follow. The Committee will be meeting to discuss further.

We will update you all once we have more information.

Club Update

Important Club Update

Due to the current circumstances with the Club being shut with this lockdown, our Treasurer Graeme Eddington, has had to review our finances for the year ahead.

As things stand our only source of income is from membership fees. We have had a great response from members and as at Wednesday evening we have received £8,500 in fees. That’s just under a THIRD of the total that we hope to bring in.
Graeme has managed to deal with our creditors and without going into detail we have a few things deferred for a period of time but there are certain bills that we are unable to remove from the business. Our outgoings for the next 3 months have been reduced by roughly 70% to assist us through this period. In summary, without any more fees coming in and the bills outgoing we have 3 MONTHS until the money runs out. We need your help in order for YOUR Club to survive. If we can get everyone to pay their fees then the better chance we have to survive this difficult period and save YOUR Club.

There are a few options to pay fees:

  • Should you need the bank details then please contact either Davy Connelly (07837838510), Graeme Eddington (07894008499) or John Green (07984444400).
  • Cash or cheque can be dropped off through the Club letterbox or cheque posted to the Club.
  • I can arrange a meet or a visit to your home where I can pick up cash or cheque. A receipt will be given for your fees.

The Committee would like to thank all members who have paid fees and hope that those still to pay will do so ASAP. However, due to what’s going on, if anyone is struggling to pay fees then please get in touch with Davy, Graeme or John where we can discuss the options possible. We certainly DO NOT want to lose any members.

This is YOUR Club and in order for us to survive, get bowling again and trade as a business we really do need YOUR help and support.

Club Update

After the Government announcement on Friday regarding the closure of pubs, clubs, restaurants and gyms then we have no option but to close our doors until further notice.

Any functions that were booked over the next month have obviously been cancelled. A member of the committee with be in touch with the member who booked the function. The Cabaret that was booked for Saturday 28 March is also cancelled. Please contact John House for a full refund of the tickets purchased. As you can probably work out, the Club will be missing out of a considerable amount of income over this closure period so it is vitally important that our members pay their fees for this season. Payments can be made online so if that’s your preference please contact our secretary Davy Connelly or our treasurer Graeme Eddington for the bank details. Add your name in the reference field of your transaction so that the Finance Team can track payments. Another option is that you enclose a cheque in an envelope with your name and either post it to the Club or hand deliver thru the letterbox at the Club. Another option is to arrange for a committee member to pick up either your cheque or cash from your home. A receipt will be given if a home visit is your choice. Or another option is to arrange to meet a Committee member to pay your fees. A receipt will be given if this is choice.

If you are struggling to pay your fees, due to the current situation, then please contact Davy or Graeme. Some of you may say – why pay my fees when there is no bowling and we understand but in order for YOUR Club to survive these unprecedented circumstances we need everyone to pull together and support the Club. We still have bills to pay and with the loss of trading we need everyone to pull together, pay your fees and once these circumstances clear we can all get back to our daily routines and go bowling.

Any members who are not on this Facebook group will be receiving a phone call from Davy Connelly or John Green on Monday evening to explain what has been said above and to discuss the options for paying fees.

For our older members should any of you require any help or shopping, etc then please contact a member of the Committee. We, as a Committee, urge everyone to adhere to the Government guidelines and to stay safe. The more we act on the guidelines then the quicker we will get thru this.

The Committee are meeting again on Wednesday so a further update will be issued then but should anything change before then you will be informed. Let’s stick together, work together, support each other and we will all get thru this.
